History of DON FM

It was the most painfully, sad day when I (Nasty V) pulled the plug on Don FM's broadcasting. That Monday morning, daylight had come and the phone was still ringing red! I realised then that things would never be the same again for the crew, the listeners and myself. After the 105.7 era ended we returned with a Restricted Service Licence for a legal month of 24/7 broadcasting, I remember my daughter Danielle, phoning me up after the temporary licence and asking " Why does Kiss now sound like Don?

Sadly, we then lost the 105.7 frequency when it was allocated to "Virgin" by the radio authorities and that, combined with the studio raids which followed ensured we did not return to it. Two studio locations were raided and all of the equipment plus hundreds of records were seized adding insult to injury. We returned on other frequencies and transmitted for a few more years but we could not reach the home counties like before and a lot of our listeners never heard us again! The DTI continued to hit our tower for the rigs, once I asked them why, they said they liked the challenge that Don gave them, so we were infamous! Donland was shrinking and the DTI kept hitting us big time! At that time we were a marked station, but we were also a great and dedicated station, our love for the music and the entertainment of the listeners drove us on making us one of London's finest pirate radio stations from 1992 to 1997.

In the beginning there was Dave (Ezee D) standing in the garden with the aerial and me tuning the link of our first real rig! We really didn't have a clue, but slowly we educated ourselves and I must confess I have never had a better partner. The only man to have the drive, determination and high standards like myself. When we split up it was like loosing a brother. Flex FM was his next project, the sister station to Don but is was never the powerful station that we made Don and it was like we were both never able to rekindle the magic we had when we were mates and both focused on the same project. Today's technology makes it possible for Don FM to return both on FM and now the Internet reaching a worldwide audience, providing the listener once again with that special family vibe whilst continuing to promote up and coming talent.

So welcome back to Donland we hope we get to know you again!
